WHAT ARE THE CONDITIONS TO RENT A OVERLAND CAMPER?
Driver must be over 25 years old and have a minimum of 3 years driving license. If the driver have less than 25 years old , he must have a minimum of 3 years of driving license, take the green insurance and do a caution of €2000. For more informations contact us .
WHAT DOCUMENTS DO I NEED TO MAKE A RESERVATION?
We will require your passport or ID picture , your driver’s license your address and phone number.
DO I NEED A SPECIAL DRIVER’S LICENSE TO DRIVE A OVERVALND CAMPER?
You only need a valid Class B driver’s license from your country of residence. Make sure you are familiar with a manual transmission vehicle.
WHAT DOES THE RENTAL PRICE INCLUDE?
If you choose vehicles equipped WITH a tent, the price includes a Roof Tent, kitchen Box, Portable table and 2 chairs, solar shower, cooler box, and first kit emergency. You have to choose an insurance option and pay the 50€ Taxes.
And if you choose vehicles equipped WITHOUT a tent, it does not include any material, everything is extra.
DO THE PRICES INCLUDE TAXES?
All the bookings include the total amount to pay including 50€ taxes, so you will not pay extra costs.
HOW CAN I PAY MY RESERVATION?
We accept Credit Cards or PayPal. The remaining balance must be paid upon arrival and you can pay it by credit or card.
How do I pay the security deposit?
The security deposit depends on the insurance option you chose. The maximum deposit that is held on your credit card if you do not take any additional insurance is €2000. The cardholders name must be on the booking contract.
You can pay with CREDIT CARD, PayPal or Cash .
If you have concerns about your cards limit please contact your bank and prevent us to arrange payment before your arrival.
When will I get my security deposit back?
Security deposits are released around one week following the drop of your rental camper. this may take longer depending on YOUR bank conditions.
WITH WHAT ACCESSORIES ARE THE OVERLAND CAMPERS EQUIPPED?
Our Overland campers are equipped with: High Quality Roof tents, kitchen Box (stove, cookware pots, pans, kitchen knives, coffee maker, dishes, cutlery etc.), Usb charger , Yeti cooler, solar shower, outdoor Helinox table and chairs, first aid kit. We also offer many other optional equipments .
WHAT EXTRA ACCESSORIES CAN I INCLUDE?
We have different extra accessories you can reserve such as portable power stations, hammocks, grills, portable toilet and more. Keep an eye on our accessories options.
HOW DOES THE RESERVATION PROCESS WORK?
First, you must define which type of camper you would like to reserve Jimny our Defender. Then choose the dates the insurance and the options. After making the down payment of 30% of the total price of your rental you will receive a reservation confirmation by email. You pay the remaining cost of the reservation by credit card via a stripe link , via PayPal one week before your arrival or at the moment the trip starts by credit card or cash .
WHERE CAN I PICK UP / RETURN A CAMPER?
We have a permanent location for the delivery and return of the Overland campers in Machico.
However, our services allow you to pick up and return campers in other places (airport, hotel…) when possible. Contact us for more info and the cost.
WHAT MUST I CONSIDER WHEN RECEIVING OR RETURNING THE CAMPER?
When starting the trip, a 30 to 45 minutes instruction about general functions of the Overland camper and its accessories must be considered. When the trip is finished at least 30 minutes must be considered to check the returning conditions of the camper and close the rental contract.
What should I do before returning the Overland Camper?
You must return the vehicle clean as well as the Roof tent and its accessories. Fuel must be full and you must respect the scheduled times to return the Camper.
Until what time Can I collect my camper?
Our normal collection time is 9:00 am to 7:00 pm.
The fee for an early collection from 6.00 am to 9.00 am is €50.
The fee for a late collection from 7.00 pm to 10.00 pm is €50.
On Sundays, you have an additional cost of 50€.

WHAT PRECAUTIONS SHOULD I TAKE WHEN DRIVING A OVERLAND CAMPER?
The principal precautions are:
- Oversize, don’t go to underground parking;
- Respect the maximum speed (100km/h);
- Never go on unauthorized 4×4 roads.
Is recommended to drive consciously and prevent accidents, keep a distance and go at a safe speed.
Use engine braking when going downhill. Engage a gear when the vehicle is stationary…
Is it easy to find places to stay overnight?
Yes! It is easy to find places to camp legally and safely. 44 Campers is the only company that has permits for every vehicle that allows you to park in forested areas and all around the island.
We will provide you with a map with all the best spots to spend wonderful nights!

Is it easy to install the roof tent?
Yes, it is super easy to install. In a few seconds it’s ready. Simply follow the instructions that will be provided to you on the day of your arrival.
HOW MANY PEOPLE CAN SLEEP INSIDE THE Overland CAMPER?
2 adults can sleep comfortably inside the Roof tent.
Which vehicle to choose between the Land Rover Defender or the Suzuki Jimmy?
The Land Rover Defender is a legendary and extraordinary vehicle, but it remains an old car.
The Suzuki Jimny is a recent vehicle, more compact and easier to drive on Madeira roads. It is also equipped with the latest technologies.
Is it difficult to drive in Madeira?
It is no more difficult to drive in Madeira than anywhere else. You just need to take a few precautions regarding the use of the vehicle and the recommended routes. We will provide you with some information regarding good practices on the island’s roads.
In the event of an accident, what does the insurance cover?
Depending on the insurance chosen when you do your booking, you will have a deposit which will be blocked pending the evaluation of the work to be carried out to repair the vehicle. (cf insurance information).
Are pets allowed?
Pets are NOT allowed in our 4×4 overland campers.
What luggage am I able to take?
Depending on the size of your bag, you can easily fit 2 Backpacks 30 to 50L. If you have too big luggage we have a concierge service which is charged €25/Rental.
